ABOUT:

THIS SERIES NEEDS NO INTRODUCTION!!! Star Wars came on the scene in 1977 with the original movie that we now know as "Episode IV: A New Hope". Predicted to be a flop- George Lucas's film was a SMASH HIT!!!! Now a massive franchise that spans through movies, tv-shows (live action and animated), comics, novels, and much more, the series has captured the hearts of many (INCLUDING ME TEEHEE)

WHY STAR WARS:

Like many people, I was introduced to Star Wars by my dad at a young age and i was absolutely fucking HOOKED!!!!!! absolutely everything about it spoke to me and every holiday and birthday i was bound to find something star wars in the present pile. even for my 16th birthday i didnt want a birthday party and instead i went to disneyland to experience Galaxy's edge. And yes i did cry seeing the full sized falcon for the first time. A lot of it could be nostalgia related but star wars is something that to me feels like home. like a warm hug. even if the fandom isnt the greatest and if i disagree with some of the material, Star Wars always feels like a warm hug. Like im safe in my galaxy far far away

FAVORITE CHARACTERS

I have literally so many characters that i fucking ADORE from Star Wars, but here are a few organized in my top 10!!

POE DAMERON

ive already talked about him on my comfort character page so i'll keep it breif !!! poe dameron my favorite star wars character . from his story to his dedication to the cause, i adore this man and will protect him to the end of time. how they made him an ex spice runner in TROS made me so angry (/gen). He is the son Leia deserved and the leader that the rest of the galaxy doesnt. ily poe

REY SKYWALKER

good lord. this woman means so much to me. i will defend her until the world literally explodes. Rey is such a beauiful beacon of hope and anyone who calls her a marysue is actually stupid. all she ever wanted was to be loved and im so happy she found her family at the end. i do wanna be clear that im a reylo-anti (click here for why) and found that kiss at the end of TROS to be really unneccesary. Rey is such a rey of sunshine and literally none of us deserve her. I am so excited to see more of her

LUKE SKYWALKER

MISTER STAR WARS HIMSELF!!! i adore this man to every star and back. he is the true skywalker and he belongs among the stars. im like one of the 3 people who loves ANH Luke. I know even Mark Hamil thinks hes too whiney but hey. I've been 19. I was absolutely that whiney LMAO!!! he just needed to get out and he did. I think about his truama that never gets talked about wayyyyyy too much. he makes me so emotional :"( what happened to that beautiful boy who left tattooine. i just wish he got to meet his mother.

JYN ERSO

the og stardust. Jyn Erso makes me love the rebellion more than i already did. her resiliance and strength in her own kind of rebellion of not doing anything to make a statement against how she was raised, then learning how she still must fight back??? rogue one is the only war movie i willingly watch. everyday i wish she was still alive in the main canon just so we could do more with her and the rest of the rogue one squad. you'll always be famous to me jyn.

CAL KESTIS

WE WATCHED HIM GROW UP AND CHANGE AND GROW. Cal is such a perfect modern jedi who was forced to change in the face of change and the fall of the only family he knew, him and Kanan both. I'm obsessed with the jedi who survived the order and had to find a new way to survive and rework their relationship with their religion and training. Much like Ahsoka and Kanan, Cal was raised to be a solider and its so apparent in his ways of fighting the empire...i just love him so much AAUAAUGGGHH

HERA SYNDULLA

she is the best pilot in the galaxy. fact. she is my favorite rebellion general. fact. she is an incredible mother....also fact. Hera just makes me personally so emotional. her story with kanan, her love for her people and the cause, AND THEN HOW SHE LITERALLY RAISED EZRA AND SABINE BEING ONLY A DECADE OLDER THAN THEM?????? she was definetly a beating heart of the rebellion and i adore her incredibly.

LEIA ORGANA

ARATAGRGARGARGAARARARARG. god. Leia. You make me cry so many tears. This woman deserved so much more and was so strong when she shouldn't have been. she lost her whole world, family, and people as a child. she was a general as a child. and then she had to rebuild a government as a young adult. Leia Organa is the blueprint. shes absolutely incredible and ahead of her time and the entire heart of the galaxy. she is the stronger twin in the force but chose a different path. I love you so much Leia. Kisses for Carrie

SABINE WREN

the only girl in star wars who knows how to work some fucking hairdye. i wanna know her secret honestly. and wanna be her...or date her- I DUNNO. She is easily my favorite mandolorian and has one of the most interesting mandalorian stories. although i dont see her becoming the first mandalorian jedi, i think her studying under Ahsoka shows us as the audience that the jedi practices can be used in other ways that isnt devoting one's self to the cuase and using the ways of their mindfulness to heal and confront unhealthy habits and trauma.

PADME AMIDALA

i wish she was real so then i could vote for her for president. she knew what was coming and prepared for it, and every day i wish she got to see her impact on the galaxy. i wish she got to raise her children and watch them grow into the incredible people they are. i wish so many things for this woman and i miss her everyday.

FINN

he should've been a jedi. i wish he was a jedi. even lego star wars got it right. they let him down and i will fight wars for Finn. He was the sequal's Han. Pulled into the fight after trying to run away but stayed because he found something to fight for. Stayed because he wanted to prove that he's not what he was before. baby you never were, i swear. god justice for finn, i hope we get to see him weild the fuck out of a lightsaber.

MY OPINIONS ON THE SEQUELS

I want to be very clear. I was 11 years old when The Force Awakens debuted in theaters. It was probably the most magical experience that i have ever experienced, my first fan experience ever...basically im biased. At the same time, these moves are so shit on that its the new prequels. these movies are not infact shit, but are just new and therefore disliked by fanboys who are pissed that Star Wars is lead by a girl now and is woke. Wake up call bitches, Star Wars has always been "woke". You just have no media literacy.

With that said, parts of the story line that they went with has many issues, especially with the ammount of information they have released now with the suplimentary disney+ shows and canon novels/comic books. If they had waited and created the sequels now, with everything they had built with the cloning and the mandalorian or maybe even put out the Shadow of the Sith book earlier, the Palpatine revival storyline wouldn't have felt so out of no where. Does that mean its a good storyline? no not at all honestly i think its shit. but there were more mistakes made which overshadowed the good they did, like the characters which really sucks.

Speaking of the characters, the sequels also show how catering to the wants of an unruly fanbase can damage a story. We see that in TROS with the absence of Rose, the presence of Reylo, and the whole rushed ending of the trilogy. I really believe that if Abbrams didnt play "emergency clean up" and didnt give into being a people pleaser to the fanbase, i think we could've had a better ending. If you'd like to read about how i've rewritten the sequels, I have that detailed in the slideshow linked to the top right corner of this whole shrine page

WHY I'M A REYLO ANTI

like a lot of people, reylo makes my blood fucking boil lmao. i understand the want and need for an enemies to lovers storyline but there is so much about these two that really doesnt make the ship work in my opinion. i hate this ship so much that i went on a 3 hour rage filled rant to my poor partner once and all she could do was nod and listen to my insanity (pensive emote here)

starting with their age. most age gaps in relationships are fine with me as long as theyre legal but Rey is still a teenager for majority of the trilogy, only ending the second film as a fresh faced 20 year old while Ben (Kylo Ren is stupid lets just call him Ben shall we?) is already into his 30s, dying at 31. If he had been slightly younger or Rey be slightly older i mightve been able to dismiss it, but the fact that the gap is there and only one member of this ship has a fully formed frontal cortex just rubs me the wrong way.

there is also Rey's relationship with Ben's parents. when I first saw TFA in theaters as an 11 year old, I thought the two were genuinely related. George Lucas once said that Star Wars is like poetry, it rhymes, and continuing thta thinking, i believed that they were siblings (ie Rey's immidiate connection with Han and Leia) or even cousins (a forbiddon Luke child?). At one point I even thought she was a Kenobi at one point (unrelated LMAO)!!!! I can see where people could take that as a sweet relationship with hypothetical in-laws but it was so parental and familiar instantaniously that it almost felt like Han and Leia were reconnecting with a lost child.

I do wanna be clear that i dont hate Rey and Ben's dynamic. I think its interesting and lends itself to the point of the Sequels, showcasing the grey areas of the force. I like the showcase of a dyad and how a connection between two people could be so strong. I just think it would've made more sense theatrically if they were siblings (ie Anakin and Obi-Wan force dyad theory). This doesnt mean I hate Rey being a no one as well, i think that having a main character outside of the skywalkers be so strong in the force is smart, but if they were going to be lovers, in my opinion, they would need to solve the previous issues.

My last issue is with the fans. Of course as a fan myself i understand that not everyone is like this but for me, i experience people like this to the point of annoyance. I understand many Reylo fans are fans of dark romance and although its not my cup of tea, i'm not against the genre. what i am against is when people take the Reylo ship and then have Rey be so out of character that shes basically a self-incert. IM THE LAST PERSON AGAINST SELF-INSERTS BUT I FIND IT VERY INSULTING TO THE FIRST FEMALE LEAD IN STAR WARS. honestly it just makes me really upset, im aware not every reylo does this but its so common that i've grown to just stand the ship now genuinely.

MY THOUGHTS ON GALAXY'S EDGE

Oh wow- the theme park I know is a very decisive subject and personally i think OffhandDisney has a great retrospective which will be linked right here. My thoughts however are...mixed to a certain degree. OF COURSE!!! DISCLAIMER!!!! I AM A BIASED MOTHER FUCKER WHO LITERALLY HAS A DISNEY PASS AND LOVES GOING TO GALAXY'S EDGE BECAUSE I ADORE FUN AND WHIMSY AND JUST LIVING A FANTASY!!! but nothing is above critisium /loving.

firstly: i think the way they handled the immersion and build of Battuu is perfect. fucking incredible. there is no other place where i feel like im in star wars. where i whole heartedly feel like im in a place that is on another planet with history and people. the imagineers did an incredible job as always. Where i think they messed up is the era they decided to place the world. Placing it in the sequels i think was a mistake and theyre currently trying to right that wrong with the appearance of New Republic characters such as the Mandalorian, Fennec Shand, Ahsoka Tano, etc. But the very perminant settings of the First Order base and the Resistance base sort of but those characters in an awkward place where they can only walk between point A and point B. I think theyre on the right track with the talks of adding more adventures to Smugglers Run, but i think that was really the initial set back.

comparing GE to its cousin, Avenger's Campus, is unfair. thats important to keep in mind. I feel like many people when it comes to having a timeless setting within a theme park world. AC did it perfectly with basically chucking the MCU Thanos plot out the window and allowing all characters to mingle, despite when introduced. However AC's pulling from a source (The MCU) that takes place over a significantly smaller time period compared to Star Wars. "But Webzy, the MCU has projects taking place in the 40s and blah blah blah-" I KNOW. The majority of it's events howeveer take place within the span of around 20 years whereas Star Wars takes place across fucking- 70 or more.

Sorry that was a bit off topic but i feel nessesary. Galaxy's edge is full of flaws that I think many people like to focus on. Mainly being "where are out iconic characters like Luke and Leia and Han? Why are we stuck with Rey and Ren?" We must remember that Disney's themeparks are just a very big advirtisement for it's franchises. Keeping that in mind, GE was mostly in development along side Disney's sequel trilogy, therefore GE focuses more on the sequels. Opening day in Anaheim California was May 19th 2019. The US relase date for Episode IX was the same year on December 20th. See what im getting at? It was sort of inevitable for these things to be connected. and that is okay. we have to remember that we are fans and not the people behind the magic we have to understand where they are thinking in terms of money and primary audience.

that aside. i think what we should focus on when talking about GE are the positives like the phenomoninal ride: Rise of the Resistance. That ride is god damn technical marvel and is so fucking interesting that I'm positively obsessed. It is easily one of the best rides at any park and an instant classic. I'm no engineer but I know that it isnt easy to combine that many different ride systems in one attraction. I wish they had opened the ride on opening day of the land instead of a month later, it could've helped with the initial thoughts.

finally i wanna talk about the biggest fumble of GE which was the Galactic Starcruiser. A strange jumble of hotel, larp, and overpriced experiences that was shoehorned into multiple canon pieces of media to then flop incredibly hard after 18 embaressing months. Although it had the strong theming of the rest of the land, it was overpriced, sloppy, and hammered in the land being stuck in time vs timeless. My best friend is a WDW local and consistently complained about how the Star Cruiser guests were prioritized over normal guests which is a shame and it would create a muddy plotline for the actual park itself. As much as i wished that I was able to do highly emersive SW larp (and still do honestly) it tried to be open to all guests while also being a fanboy experience which never works. Hoenstly if it chose to be one thing (a hotel or larp experience) and lowered its prices, it could've been much more successful.
